EXPERIMENT IN THREE PARTS stands on the through line of contemporary music while exposing the undercurrent of thoughts, sensations and ideas that make it complex and whole.  This piece aims to be relatable while tugging on more abstract concepts that remove people from their classic interpretations of contemporary pop music and dance. Utilizing visually eye-catching lighting/scenic techniques and custom costume design, EITP hopes to celebrate spectacle while highlighting intimacy and subtly.

EXPERIMENT IN THREE PARTS is malleable 45-60 minute multi-media work that utilizes movement and sound design to highlight and comment on contemporary musical preferences. EITP consists of three main fragments, all of which have the ability to stand alone as singular events.  The first section “Rear View” is a 17 minute duet that pays close attention to the alter egos of personal relationships. Section two, “Sparkle List” is a 27 minute quartet that carefully balances between set choreography and improvisationally sequenced playlists curated by each dancer and reinterpreted by a live performer (Kyle McCarthy). “No one Cares You’re a Sad Girl” is a 12-16 minute improvised solo that acts as the culmination of EXPERIMENT IN THREE PARTS.  “No one Cares You’re a Sad Girl” allows the audience choice in skipping to the next song in a shuffled playlist when they are feeling less interested. This event deals with the ideas of instantly embodying music and negotiating between a dancers desires and the audience's attention span.
